The New Centre

Specifics

Unique Glazed Panels | Natural Light | Rigid / Harsh Forms | Human Centric | Reflective

The New Centre is an architecture that provides one with inner reflection. Designed to educate and bring to light Human Rights, The New Centre is a symbolic representation of North American Prison Systems.

Designed to steer away from these systems means to turn towards other practices. In many Scandinavian Countries, a punishment based system does not exist like that of North America. Through intense research studies, these Scandinavian methods result in significantly lower recidivism rates and focus their attention on rehabilitation rather than, punishment.

The New Centre is intended to focus on education + rehabilitation, in-turn, resulting in lower recidivism rates. Situated around local Universities and Colleges, The New Centre offers opportunities for live stream education, trade schools and understandings of innovations in technology.

As a reflection of the punishment those incarcerated undergo, the physical architecture is rigid and showcases harsh angular lines. Further, programs are intended for both the community and incarcerated individuals. With safety in mind, secure and separate entrances are considered and placed on opposite sides of the building.

Community education is limited to the ground levels where a museum-like exhibit is displayed highlighting the lack of human rights inflicted to those incarcerated. The upper floors are intended for those in the prison system looking for a change. Several education methods are provided - streams, hands-on skill trades and innovations in technology.
